Community Messiah Concert Had Something for Everyone

(BOWIE, Md.) - Bowie State University's Concert Choir, directed by Professor Brandon Felder, brought the holiday season to life on Dec. 11 with the 3rd Annual Community Messiah Concert in the Fine and Performing Arts Center's Dionne Warwick Theatre.

The evening featured a remarkable lineup of artists, including Grammy Award-winning jazz vocalist Samara Joy, violinist Dr. Chelsey Green, and saxophonist Skip Pruitt. Joined by a full community orchestra and a youth chorus of 115 singers, they showcased a resounding blend of vocal and instrumental music.

"During this joyous season of light, we pause to count our blessings," Felder said. "It's humbling to see how the community comes together each year to support this concert. This year, our theatre and recital hall were both filled to capacity -WOW!"

The concert not only delivered musical enrichment to Bowie State's campus and the surrounding community but also created an opportunity to bridge generations. Young performers joined seasoned musicians to deliver choruses from Handel's Messiah and other diverse musical selections, underscoring the transformative and unifying power of music.

"The annual Community Messiah Concert has become a signature event for Bowie State University, offering a space for students, families and local residents to come together in celebration," said Felder. "This concert proves once again that music has the empathetic power to transform minds, connect spirits, and touch the soul."
