Grassley Completes 44th Annual 99 County Meetings

WOODBURY COUNTY, IOWA - U.S. Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) today concluded his 44th annual 99 county meetings across Iowa with a tour of Novelty Machine & Supply Company in Sioux City, followed by a question-and-answer session with employees. Earlier in the day, Grassley held meetings in Le Mars, Rock Rapids and a town hall in Sioux Center. Grassley takes questions on any subject; Iowans set the agenda.

"The cross-section of people I meet with at factories, hospitals, schools, small businesses and town halls better informs my work on behalf of Iowans. Representative government is a two-way street, you've got to have dialogue to make it work. That's why I started my 99 county meetings - to hold myself accountable to Iowans and hear from as many of my constituents as possible, face-to-face, about issues important to them. Unfortunately, it's not possible to meet in person with more than three million Iowans, so I always encourage people to send me an email, write me a letter, give me a call or visit my office to make their voices heard," Grassley said.

"Iowans' insights guide my policy and oversight priorities in Washington. My efforts to lower prescription drug prices, enhance maternal health care and stop human and drug trafficking fueled by the open border all stemmed from conversations with Iowans," Grassley continued. "I'm looking forward to many more meetings across our state in the coming months, and hope to hear from you soon."

Iowans who attended this year's meetings raised concerns on a variety of issues including pharmacy benefit managers, the southern border, inflation, rural health care, the Farm Bill, disaster recovery and national security. They often voiced support for bipartisanship and government accountability.

Background

Grassley began his 99 county meetings in 1981, after he was first elected to represent Iowans in the U.S. Senate. Since then, he has held at least one question-and-answer session in each of Iowa's 99 counties every year, inviting and responding to questions and comments on any subject. Grassley makes himself available to local media for 15 minutes after the meetings.

Grassley's 99 county meetings consist of public town halls, as well as meetings with small businesses, farmers, schools, health care professionals, community leaders and more. This allows Grassley to hear from a variety of Iowans, including those who aren't able to leave work to attend public town meetings. Grassley's tireless efforts to meet Iowans where they work, study and live continues to set the standard for representative government.
