Common dilemmas discussed at Leader-led Live Annual Ethics Training

Common ethical dilemmas were discussed at the annual Defense Logistics Agency Land and Maritime Leader-led Live Annual Ethics Training Oct. 3 in the Operations Center Auditorium on Defense Supply Center Columbus.

Hosted by the DLA Land and Maritime Legal Office, the interactive training featured a panel of leaders discussing ethical challenges.

The panel consisted of DLA Land and Maritime Commander Army Brig. Gen. Gail Atkins, Deputy Commander Kenneth Watson, Chief of Staff Air Force Col. Alexander Constantine, Director of Operations Christina Schall, Strategic Acquisitions Process Director Navy Capt. Matthew Fahner and Specialized Management Operations Director Heath Berkshire.

Each leader offered up real-world and hypothetical scenarios followed by an interactive discussion with the large audience moderated by Mike Meehan and Shy Wang, DLA Land and Maritime ethics counselors.

Topics discussed were gifts from outside and inside sources, non-federal entity support, post government employment, stipulations of the Hatch Act, conflicts of interest, safe harbor and outside employment.

The annual training is required for all OGE-450 filers, but all DLA Land and Maritime associates are encouraged to attend. The OGE-450, or Confidential Financial Disclosure Report, is required to be filed annually by employees in certain positions.
