Welcome to the LBPD Blotter!

As part of our ongoing commitment to external communications and providing valuable information to our community, the Department posts preliminary information about incidents that occurred the previous evening, including shootings and stabbings, as well as any other LBPD updates to the Department's homepage and on the "News" tab of the Department's website. This page will be updated as new incidents occur.

Here's a recap of incidents occurring last night:

  • Traffic Fatality - 14th Street and Cherry Avenue - On Aug. 2, 2024, at approximately 6:55 p.m., officers responded to the area of 14th Street and Cherry Avenue regarding a hit-and-run traffic collision, involving two vehicles. A male adult driver sustained major injuries and was determined deceased at the hospital. The female adult passenger was transported to the hospital. The driver of the suspect vehicle fled on foot. A perimeter was established and SWAT resources were activated. The suspect was located and arrested. A news release detailing this incident is forthcoming.

  • No-Hit Shooting - Obispo Avenue and Coolidge Street - On Aug. 2, 2024 at approximately 5:52 p.m., officers responded to the area of Coolidge Street and Obispo Avenue regarding a no-hit shooting. Upon arrival, officers contacted a male adult victim who stated a male adult suspect discharged a firearm in his direction. The preliminary investigation indicates an altercation related to a traffic collision escalated when the suspect discharged a firearm in the direction of the victim. Officers were unable to locate evidence of a shooting. No injuries or damage was reported. The investigation is ongoing.
  • Hit Shooting - 6100 Block of Long Beach Boulevard - On Aug. 2, 2024 at approximately 6:13 p.m., officers responded to the 6100 block of Long Beach Boulevard regarding a hit shooting call. Upon arrival, officers located a male adult victim with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the lower body. Long Beach Fire Department personnel transported the victim to a local hospital in stable condition. The preliminary investigation indicates two male adult suspects were in a physical altercation with the victim which escalated when one suspect discharged a firearm, striking the victim. The suspects fled the scene prior to officers' arrival. No other injuries were reported. The investigation is ongoing.
  • Hit Shooting - 2800 Block of Atlantic Avenue - On Aug. 3, 2024 at approximately 12:01 a.m., officers responded to a local hospital regarding a male adult victim with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the upper body. The victim refused to cooperate with the investigation; therefore, circumstances and location for the shooting are unknown at this time. The investigation is ongoing.
  • No-Hit Shooting - 2000 Block of Magnolia Avenue - On Aug. 3, 2024 at approximately 12:36 a.m., officers responded to the 2000 block of Magnolia Avenue regarding a shots call. Upon arrival officers located evidence of a shooting. The preliminary investigation indicates a male adult suspect discharged a firearm multiple times into the ground. No injuries were reported. The investigation is ongoing.
  • Stabbing - 10th Street and Walnut Avenue - On Aug. 2, 2024 at approximately 11:39 p.m., officers responded to the area of 10th Street and Walnut Avenue regarding a stabbing. Upon arrival, officers located a male adult victim with non-life-threatening stab wounds to the upper body. Long Beach Fire Department personnel transported the victim to a local hospital in stable condition. The preliminary investigation indicates the victim was in a verbal dispute with an unknown male adult suspect which escalated when the suspect stabbed the victim. Suspect information and the motive for the stabbing are under investigation
