Denver Animal Protection Teams up With Comcast to Build Doghouses

(DENVER)-Denver Animal Protection (DAP) and Comcast partnered today to provide shelter and comfort for furry companions in the community by building and distributing free doghouses.

Employees from both organizations recognize the importance of all animals having a safe and comfortable place to call home. And while DAP advocates for dogs to be inside and part of the family as social pack animals, that may not always be possible, said Melanie Sobel, Director of DAP and Denver Animal Shelter.

"Adequate shelter is vital. Every pet deserves a warm and secure place to rest, especially during harsh weather conditions, including rain, snow, wind, and extreme temperatures, hot or cold. By working together, we can make a significant difference in the lives of pets and their families in our community," she said.

Adequate shelter is also the law in Denver. Denver ordinance requires animals have a clean and securespace where they can access food and water, comfortably rest, and seek shelter from the elements.

With Comcast's support, DAP will expand its outreach efforts and provide essential shelter to pets in underserved areas of Denver. "We are proud to partner with Denver Animal Protection to support this meaningful cause in improving the quality of life for pets and strengthening the bond between animals and their owners," said Melinda McCluskey, Community Impact Manager, Comcast Mountain West Region.

Doghouses serve a variety of needs from protecting pets from severe weather and preventing related health issues, like heat stroke and hypothermia, and providing a designated space for dogs to call their own.

DAP's Community Engagement team and its Animal Protection officers will hand out the homes to families in Denver who have dogs that are kept mostly outdoors. The doghouses will be kept at the shelter and handed out as neededDAP and Comcast invite others to support homeless pets by volunteering their time or making donations to their care. Together, we can make a positive difference in the lives of pets and their families throughout Denver, reinforcing the importance of home in providing safety, comfort and well-being for humans and canines alike.
