Clarenville RCMP continues enforcement of impaired driving legislation with two arrests this past Saturday

On Saturday, August 18, 2024, Clarenville RCMP continued with enforcement of impaired driving legislation.

In the early morning hours of Saturday, Clarenville RCMP members responded to a complaint of dangerous driving in the community of Clarenville. The described vehicle was located and a traffic stop was conducted. The male driver displayed signs of impairment and, after failing the roadside screening test, was arrested and brought back to the detachment for breath tests. The driver refused to provide adequate samples of his breath and was subsequently charged with refusal of a breath demand and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle. He will appear in court on a later date. His vehicle was impounded and his driver's licence was suspended.

At approximately 8:15 p.m. that same day, Clarenville RCMP responded to a complaint of an impaired ATV operator. Police responded and located the driver, who failed the roadside test, was arrested for impaired operation and brought back to the detachment for breath testing.

He failed the breath test, was charged with impaired operation and was held for court. His ATV was seized and his driver's licence was suspended. He is scheduled to appear in court this afternoon.

RCMP NL continues to fulfill its mandate to protect public safety, enforce the law, and ensure the delivery of priority policing services in Newfoundland and Labrador.
