ERIE, PA - In response to heightened fire risks due to current dry conditions, lack of precipitation, and strong winds, Erie County Executive Brenton Davis has enacted a temporary countywide burn ban. Effective November 6, 2024, the burn ban aims to protect the health, safety, and welfare of Erie County residents by limiting outdoor burning activities that could lead to uncontrolled fires.

In cooperation with Erie County firefighting organizations and the Pennsylvania Bureau of Forestry, this executive order follows recommendations from the district forester and multiple local fire chiefs, each emphasizing the extreme fire risk across various areas of the county.

Key Details of the Temporary Burn Ban:

Duration: The ban will be in effect for 14 days, unless extended through further resolution.

Restricted Activities: Open burning of materials such as garbage, leaves, grass, twigs, litter, and any land-clearing debris. This includes fires in burn barrels, fire rings, or on open ground.

Permitted Activities: Use of propane or gas stoves, charcoal grills, and tobacco. Campfires in designated campgrounds are allowed if contained in fire rings, with flammable materials cleared within a 5-foot radius.

Enforcement: Local police and Pennsylvania State Police will enforce the ban, with violators facing fines of up to $100 for a first offense, $200 for a second offense, and $300 for subsequent violations.
