Organised Crime Squad detectives have charged five men over the alleged shooting of a man in Kirribilli last year under Strike Force Marlton.
About 4.10pm on Wednesday 25 October 2023, emergency services were called to Upper Pitt Street in Kirribilli following reports of a shooting.
Officers from North Shore Police Area Command attended and located a 37-year-old man with a minor leg wound; he refused any medical treatment.
Police were told the 37-year-old man was approached and shot at by an unknown man who arrived at the location in a white Ford Ranger dual cab, before fleeing the scene west towards Parkes Street.
A short time later, the Ford Ranger was found alight in a carpark on Raymond Road, Neutral Bay.
It's alleged two men were seen exiting the vehicle before setting it alight and getting into an orange Holden Commodore sedan and fleeing in an unknown direction.
The next day (Thursday 26 October 2023), an orange Holden Commodore was found burnt out on Harris Street in Harris Park.
Crime scenes were established at all three locations, which police treated as linked.
Local police commenced inquiries before State Crime Command's Organised Crime Squad took carriage of the investigation under Strike Force Marlton.
Following extensive inquiries, about 6am on Tuesday 10 December 2024, strike force detectives - with assistance from Financial Crime Squad's Motor Unit and South West Metropolitan Operational Support Group - executed two search warrants in Guildford and Merrylands.
In Guildford, police arrested an 18-year-old man. He was taken to Auburn Police Station, where he was charged with shoot at with intent to murder, destroy etc property in company use fire etc >$5000, and participate criminal group.
In Merrylands, police arrested an 18-year-old man. He was taken to Granville Police Station, where he was charged with destroy etc property in company use fire etc >$5000 and participate in a criminal group.
Both men were refused bail to appear in a children's court the same day.
A 19-year-old man was also arrested in South Wentworthville. He was taken to Parramatta Police Station, where he was charged with shoot at with intent to murder and participate in a criminal group. He was refused bail and appeared in Parramatta Local Court the same day.
Just after 2pm on Wednesday 11 December 2024, strike force detectives - assisted by Raptor Squad Traffic & Highway Patrol officers - stopped a vehicle in Yagoona.
The driver of the car, a 35-year-old man, was arrested and taken to Bankstown Police Station where he was charged with damage property by fire/explosion.
He was granted conditional bail to appear in Bankstown Local Court on Thursday 23 January 2025.
Police will allege in court the men were hired help to arrange the staging and destroying of the vehicles used in the shooting.
About 9.30am today (Thursday 12 December 2024), strike force detectives arrested a 19-year-old man at Riverstone Police Station.
He was charged with shoot at with intent to murder and destroy etc property in company use fire etc >$5000.
The man was refused bail to appear in Burwood Local Court on Wednesday 18 December 2024.
Police will allege in court the man was the gunman in the shooting.
