PPB, OSP Conduct Successful Traffic Enforcement Mission

The Portland Police Bureau and Oregon State Police conducted a joint traffic enforcement mission that resulted in numerous citations and arrests.
On Wednesday, October 23, 2024, PPB's Traffic Division, in collaboration with OSP, carried out a successful joint traffic enforcement mission. This coordinated effort focused on high-crash corridors and areas that have recently seen tragic traffic fatalities, reinforcing the ongoing commitment to improving road safety across the city.
The primary goal of the mission was to enhance life safety by utilizing the Human Vehicle Environment (HVE) analysis. This approach allows officers to assess not only the behavior of drivers but also vehicle conditions and environmental factors that contribute to accidents. By targeting key problem areas, the mission aimed to raise community awareness of traffic safety while addressing specific dangers present in historically problematic locations.
Officers involved in the mission reported numerous positive interactions with the public. Many citizens expressed appreciation for the heightened focus on roadway safety and welcomed the presence of officers in high-risk areas.
The mission resulted in:
189 traffic stops
150 citations
116 warnings
4 arrests
1 vehicle towed
These efforts were part of a broader initiative to reduce serious traffic incidents and promote safer driving behaviors in Portland.
PPB's Traffic Division extends its gratitude to OSP for their invaluable assistance. This collaboration demonstrated the strength of interagency cooperation, and both departments look forward to future joint missions aimed at reducing traffic fatalities and keeping the public safe on our roadways.
