Meeting of interministerial International Humanitarian Law Group

24 September saw the first meeting of the interministerial International Humanitarian Law Group with the International Committee of the Red Cross and the Polish Red Cross. The event provided an opportunity to present the operations of the Central Tracing Agency in Geneva, including the Central Tracing Agency Bureau for the International Conflict between Russia and Ukraine and the national Information and Tracing Service of the Polish Red Cross.
The activity of those two entities is enshrined in the 1949 Geneva conventions on the protection of war victims and their additional protocols. They focus on searching for and clarifying the fate of missing and dead people in armed conflicts and natural disasters, as well as conducting humanitarian search missions, identifying graves, and participating in exhumations of victims of armed conflicts.
Representatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross also outlined their activities during the ongoing armed conflicts and natural disasters, pointing out to the enduring validity of such actions, and to the challenges they face.
