Lincoln Police Investigate Fatal Vehicle & Pedestrian Collision

UPDATE (August 5 - 9:30 a.m.) | The victim has been identified as 25-year-old Rico Benavidez. The preliminary investigation determined a 2024 Toyota GR 86 was driving westbound on W. Denton Road. The driver had turned the vehicle to the left to avoid a pedestrian in the road and collided with a second person who had been crossing the road on the passenger side of the vehicle.

Lincoln Police Officers and personnel from Lincoln Fire & Rescue were dispatched to the area of Denton Road and 1st Street on a report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle. Upon arrival they located a 25-year-old Crete man who had been struck by a vehicle eastbound on Denton Road. Emergency personnel rendered aid and the man was transported to a Lincoln hospital but eventually succumbed to his injuries. The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene.



A section of the Denton Road west of 1st Street was closed for the investigation but has now reopened.
