Calcasieu Parish - On November 28, 2024, shortly before 9:00 a.m., Louisiana State Police Troop D received a report of a 2023 Jeep Cherokee traveling west on Interstate 10, linked to a multi-jurisdictional theft case. While searching for the vehicle, a Trooper spotted it traveling westbound on I-10 near Iowa.

As the Trooper followed and awaited additional units, the suspect vehicle continued onto I-210 before exiting onto US Hwy 90. Troopers, along with officers from the Lake Charles Police Department, attempted to conduct a traffic stop in the parking lot of a nearby convenience store. The driver, later identified as 27-year-old Shanan P. McCoy Jr. of Texas, refused to stop and struck a fully marked LSP unit. McCoy and two passengers then attempted to flee on foot. After a brief foot pursuit, Troopers apprehended McCoy. No officers were injured during the encounter.

Detectives from the Louisiana State Police Criminal Investigations Division were contacted to assist with the investigation. A search warrant was obtained for the Jeep, leading to the recovery of approximately 34 Apple MacBook Airs, 5 Apple MacBook Pros, 3 Apple iPad Pros, and various tools and items consistent with burglary activities.

McCoy was booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center on charges of aggravated battery, flight from an officer, and driving under suspension. More charges are forthcoming.

This investigation is ongoing, and the identities of the remaining passengers are still being determined. Anyone with information, photos, or videos related to this case is urged to contact LSP Detectives.
