Increased flow in the Santa Fe River started this week due to higher-than-usual storage in McClure Reservoir while the Nichols Dam Rehabilitation Project is under construction and Nichols Reservoir is empty.
Drivers and pedestrians are encouraged to exercise caution because McClure Reservoir has been partially drained. This means that flows downstream of the municipal reservoirs into the Santa Fe River will increase through November and into December.
Pedestrians along the river should watch for ice during colder temperatures at night.
Drivers within Santa Fe County are advised to take extra care at all river and arroyo water crossings.
The City of Santa Fe Water Division's drainage plan has begun with flows at just below five cubic feet per second, which could potentially increase to approximately eight cubic feet per second at the beginning of December and continue through the end of the year.
