CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - The Franklin County Commissioners proudly presented the July 2024 Employee of the Month award to Tyler Scott during the board's Aug. 8 public meeting. Scott has been employed by Franklin County since February 2019 and serves as a probation officer with the county's adult probation department.

July's Employee of the Month recipient was determined by the Special Thanks and Recognition (STAR) Committee, which received 31 nominations for the July award, two of which were for Scott.

"In April, Officer Nina Shatzer was concerned for one of her court-supervised individuals who struggles with alcoholism," explained one nomination. "The family feared that she was drinking heavily and could be in a medical crisis … The family gave permission [for officers] to enter the house."

"Once at the residence, Officer Scott rang the doorbell and knocked loudly for 5-10 minutes; no one answered the door," the nomination continued. With the assistance of Pennsylvania State Police, Officer Scott and Officer Cody Eichelberger "carefully cleared each room before they got to the rear of the house where the bedroom was located. They knocked on the closed bedroom door and announced themselves. They saw a female in bed. Officer Scott checked for breathing and a pulse…and started to talk to her. The officers had State Police call for emergency medical services for a medical check and transportation to the hospital."

The nomination went on to praise Scott's humanity, empathy and determination; without those characteristics, the individual in crisis may have experienced a much different outcome. The nomination also described the excellent teamwork exhibited by Scott and Eichelberger during this incident; as such, Eichelberger was honored as Franklin County's June 2024 Employee of the Month for his role during this welfare check.

Additionally, the nominations noted how Scott has assisted in establishing a drug identification training program for county staff. He has also stepped up to the plate to assist others in the adult probation department on numerous occasions.

Scott's outstanding characteristics are attributes that have not gone unnoticed by his peers. He is described as determined, motivated, diligent, hardworking, dedicated and adaptable.

The Franklin County Commissioners congratulated Scott on his recognition and thanked him for his excellent work and for exuding such a high standard of knowledge, leadership and excellence to the employees and residents of Franklin County.
