TRAFFIC ADVISORY: Temporary Intersection Closure of Iberville Street and Burgundy Street

NEW ORLEANS - The City of New Orleans today announced that beginning Friday, Aug. 9 at 7 a.m. Department of Public Works' contractor Hard Rock Construction, LLC will temporarily close the intersection of Iberville Street and Burgundy Street for approximately two weeks to accommodate utilities and roadway construction as part of the Canal Street & Rampart Street construction project. The road closure will remain in effect until Friday, Aug. 23 6:30 p.m. Signage and traffic control measures, such as barrels and fencing, will be onsite to direct drivers and pedestrians.

During this two-week closure, traffic will be rerouted down North Rampart Street (Downtown & Uptown), Dauphine Street (Uptown), Canal Street (Lake bound & River bound) and Conti Street (River bound). Residents and businesses in this area were notified of the closure via a neighborhood canvass.

The $4.8 million Canal Street & Rampart Street project was designed by Julien Engineering & Consulting, Inc. and is being constructed by Hard Rock Construction, LLC. The scope of work varies by block but includes repairing water and drainage lines, as well as rebuilding the street entirely and repairing sidewalks and curbs. In general, the contractor is working from 7 a.m. until sunset, Monday through Friday. The entire project is scheduled to be complete by the Winter 2025, weather permitting.

Since May 2018, DPW has completed 206 projects with an estimated value of $959 million. Today, 34 roadwork projects are under construction with an estimated value of nearly $685 million.
