Conemaugh Physician Group Welcomes Dr. Desmond Brown

Conemaugh Physician Group - Neurology announces the addition of fellowship-trained, board-eligible neurosurgical oncologist Desmond Brown, MD, PhD.

Dr. Brown brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the Conemaugh Health System and community. Most recently, he served as an Assistant Clinical Investigator at the Surgical Neurology Branch (SNB) of the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS). While there, he earned the NIH F30 award and a predoctoral research fellowship from the New Jersey Commission on Cancer Research.

Dr. Brown specializes in tumors of the brain and spine in addition to neurosurgical disorders including facial spasms, spinal stenosis, hydrocephalus, glioblastomas, and many others.

He completed his medical residency in neurologic surgery at the Mayo Clinic while serving as Chief Resident and Instructor of Neurosurgery. During residency, Dr. Brown also completed two neurosurgical oncology fellowships, including an international fellowship in Montpellier, France.

Originally from Jamaica, Dr. Brown moved to the United States after high school. He earned a Bachelor of Science in chemistry and biochemistry from Temple University, where he graduated with honors and was a two-time recipient of the Clearfield Chemistry Scholarship through the university's College of Science and Technology. After obtaining a Master of Science in biochemistry and membrane biophysics from Temple, he enrolled in the joint Rutgers-Robert Wood Johnson/Princeton University MD/PhD program, earning a PhD in molecular biology and neuroscience.
