Knowsley residents are benefitting from community mental health support to help them with their job search.
Mind Connect Mental Health CIC , a community-based organisation, is hosting a series of wellbeing sessions at Knowsley Works in Kirkby town centre.
The sessions provide support with managing emotions, relationships, trauma, stress and anxiety, all with the aim of improving overall health and wellbeing. Where needed, clients are directed towards other support such as financial, physical health, or addictions.
Each client receives a care plan and strategies to take away with them to help with their individual journey.
Since September, 19 people have attended the sessions. One Knowsley Works client has enjoyed the sessions so much she will be starting voluntary work with Mind Connect after recently completing her degree in psychology
Here's what a couple of clients said about the sessions:
"I've found the sessions insightful, helping me build healthy coping mechanisms and manage my depression and anxiety. The sessions are interactive, and it really feels like a safe space."
"I thought it was helpful, it gave me an insight into different ways how mental health affects people and how to help get better. I would recommend it to a friend because I thought that it can help people who suffer from mental health."
The sessions are delivered by Lee Monaghan and Cathy McSorley from Mind Connect, Lee is a qualified Mental Health Nurse and Behaviour Analyst, who specialises in Autism and Complex Needs. Cathy has been in the voluntary and mental health sector for 10 years and focuses on her own lived experience of anxiety and depression to help others.
Lee commented: "Our wellbeing sessions are made using techniques that have genuinely worked for us and the people we support. We wanted to create something that looks at mental health from a new and realistic perspective. Hopefully these sessions do just that for anyone who wants our support."
Cllr Tony Brennan, Knowsley's Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Economic Development commented:
"The Council's Knowsley Works team provides invaluable support to residents who are out of work, looking for employment or who need support with training. This additional support for residents with specific mental health needs really complements what the team offers and it's wonderful to see that in just a few weeks it has helped so many people on their own journey."
