Man To Be Charged For Forgery And Obstruction Of Justice Offences In Relation To Registration Of Imported Vehicles

The Police will be charging a 49-year-old man in court on 13 August 2024 for his suspected involvement in forging documents for the purpose of cheating the Land Transport Authority ("LTA") into approving applications for the registration of imported vehicles.

Between May 2020 and July 2020, the man, who was the director of a vehicle parallel importer, allegedly forged four documents, comprising of three letters purporting to have been issued by overseas car dealers and a vehicle certificate from an overseas authority. These documents were submitted to LTA to support the company's applications to register two imported vehicles.

The man will also be charged with offences relating to obstructing police investigation. He allegedly deleted messages from two WhatsApp chats on his mobile phone to prevent police officers from accessing them.

The offence of forgery under Section 468 of the Penal Code carries an imprisonment term of up to ten years and a possible fine. The offence of obstructing, preventing, perverting, or defeating course of justice under Section 204A of the Penal Code carries an imprisonment term of up to seven years, or a fine, or both.

The Police takes a serious view of the submission of forged documents to government agencies and offenders will be dealt with severely in accordance with the law.
