Incident Date: November 19, 2024

Release Date: November 20, 2024

Incident number: VE24-10455

Prepared By: Lt. Dustin Fehrmann

Location: CTH PB near American Way

Offender: Ian Heinz (36-year-old / Belleville)

Details:

On Tuesday, November 19, 2024, an off-duty Verona officer came across a motor vehicle crash on County Trunk Highway PB near Rolling Oaks Lane, finding an SUV with heavy front-end damage with the driver not responding. The officer forced entry into the vehicle and found the driver conscious and uninjured, but unable to get out of the vehicle on his own. The driver displayed signs he was impaired, and a handgun was removed from his person.

The investigation determined the SUV was traveling southbound on CTH PB when it rear-ended a full-sized pickup truck also traveling southbound on CTH PB, causing the pickup truck to run off the roadway. The driver of the pickup truck reported neck and spine injuries and was transported to a hospital by EMS. Alcohol impairment is believed to be a contributing factor in the crash.

A series of Standardized Field Sobriety Tests were administered to the driver of the SUV and he was arrested for Operating a Motor Vehicle While Intoxicated - Causing Injury and Going Armed While Intoxicated.

The Verona Police Department was assisted by the Dane County Sheriff's Office, Verona Fire Department, and FitchRona EMS.
