Grand Junction Hosts Get to Know Grand Junction's Sister City Event

The city is hosting a free "Get to Know Grand Junction's Sister City" event for the whole family on Friday, September 13, 2024, from 4 - 7:30 p.m. in front of City Hall on Rood Ave. between 5th and 6th Streets. This is a celebration of the 20th anniversary of the sister city relationship between Grand Junction and El Espino, El Salvador.

The event, co-hosted by the Foundation for Cultural Exchange (FCE) and sponsored by ANB Bank and the Downtown Development Authority, will feature a live Cumbia band called Koabo, games, free popsicles, food trucks including one serving traditional pupusas, a Touch-A-Truck event, giveaways, and displays of city projects and initiatives.

During the event, city staff will be on hand to share information about recent projects, plans, and new initiatives. For this special edition of the event, the recent delegation of professors and Colorado Mesa University students who traveled to El Salvador will attend to talk about their recent trip and the life changing experience of living with the families of scholarship students.

Get to Know Your City events are planned throughout the year to provide community members with an opportunity to learn more about current and upcoming city projects and initiatives. City staff are on hand at these events to answer questions and displays to provide detail regarding projects and plans currently underway or in the planning stages. Staff also offer ways for the public to provide input and learn more about current projects. Topics can include information about plans involving public safety, transportation, utilities, mobility, and development. These events are free and open to all community members.
