Foreign Secretary Alicia Bárcena begins visit to Santiago, Chile
  • Secretary Bárcena will meet with Foreign Minister Alberto van Klaveren to discuss priority bilateral issues, trade and development cooperation
  • She will participate in the Pacific Alliance ministerial meeting and in the commemoration of the 25th anniversary of the Mexico-Chile Free Trade Agreement

Foreign Secretary Alicia Bárcena will travel to Santiago, Chile from August 7-9 to strengthen bilateral relations in cooperation and trade and discuss regional and global challenges.

On August 7, the Foreign Secretary will participate in the Second Ministerial Meeting on Women's Empowerment and Economic Autonomy of the Pacific Alliance. She will promote public and economic policies with a gender perspective that boost women's participation in the job market and implementation of a feminist foreign policy.

On Thursday, August 8, Secretary Bárcena will meet with Chilean Foreign Minister Alberto van Klaveren to discuss the bilateral relationship, trade, development cooperation and regional and multilateral issues.

She will co-chair the 8th Meeting of the Mexico-Chile Strategic Partnership Agreement (SPA) Council, and sign memoranda of understanding on feminist foreign policy, indigenous peoples and academic and diplomatic cooperation.

Lastly, on August 9, the Foreign Secretary will participate in the commemoration of the 25th anniversary of the Mexico-Chile Free Trade Agreement (FTA). She will highlight the recent modernization of the FTA, which features innovative chapters on collaboration between micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises and the inclusion of women in foreign trade.

The Mexican delegation accompanying Foreign Secretary Alicia Bárcena includes the Mexican Ambassador to Chile, Laura Beatriz Moreno Rodríguez; the Foreign Secretary's Chief of Staff, Martín Borrego Llorente; the Director General of Global Economic Promotion, Rodrigo Morales Castillo; and the Coordinator of Feminist Foreign Policy, Ximena Mariscal de Alba.
