WI Stormwater Week

This week marks the beginning of Fall and the first inaugaral WI Stormwater Week! In terms of stormwater quality, this time of the year is the most important of any time to help keep our lakes and rivers clean from pollutants like phosphorus and nitrogen. Leaves contain phosphorus and when they fall on our streets and driveways, they release the phosphorus into the storm sewer. Storm sewers lead directly to our lakes and streams, going completely untreated! This is a misconception to most people who think it goes to their sanitary treatment plant, well it doesn't. We hope that knowing this will encourage you to help keep leaves out of our streets this fall.

Do your part to help keep lakes and streams clean from algae blooms that feed on these nutrients.
