City of El Paso Enters Into Settlement Agreement to Deploy El Paso Electric's Advanced Metering System Plan

EL PASO, Texas - Today, El Paso Electric (EPE) is pleased to announce we have entered into a settlement agreement with the City of El Paso and all other intervenors regarding its Advanced Metering System (AMS) deployment plan. AMS will provide EPE with instant notifications when a power outage occurs without the need for customers to call, improving reliability and power restoration times. In addition, it will provide EPE with the information needed to effectively incorporate more renewable resources and support electrification of transportation. Currently, EPE's service territory in Texas is the only major service area in the state without this smart metering system.

"EPE applauds City Council's vision to have an innovative, best-in-class energy sector in our region that supports our economic development goals. Throughout the country, AMS technology has demonstrated its capability to improve customer service and empower customers with the ability to make choices about their energy usage. At the same time, it enables the electric utility to become more efficient by improving the usage of our utility infrastructure investments made by our customers," shares EPE President and CEO Kelly A. Tomblin. "We look forward to working with the City as we continue to transform the energy landscape."

The next step in this regulatory process is for the Utility's state regulator, the Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUCT), to review the proposal.
