Trick-or-Streets: NYC DOT to Celebrate Halloween With 147 Pedestrianized Locations Across the City

Third Annual Trick-or-Streets Halloween Event Is Largest Ever

New interactive map highlights every location.

NEW YORK - New York City Department of Transportation (NYC DOT) Commissioner Ydanis Rodriguez today announced 147 car-free Trick-or-Streets locations for Halloween. The initiative will help children enjoy the holiday and allow New Yorkers to safely utilize our collective front yards - our streets. This year marks the third annual Trick-or-Streets-the largest ever. For a map of each location, visit nyc.gov/trickorstreets.

"With more children expected out on our streets for Halloween, Trick-or-Streets provides a safe way for families to enjoy the holiday and connect with their neighbors," said NYC DOT Commissioner Ydanis Rodriguez. "Trick-or-Streets is just one example of the ways we're reimagining our streets for people through our Open Streets program."

Part of the city's Open Streets, Plaza, and Public Realm programming initiatives, Trick-or-Streets allows groups of residents, community organizations, institutions, and other neighborhood associations to create car-free streets for New Yorkers to safely participate in Halloween activities.

At Trick or Streets locations, New Yorkers can expect festive programming, performances, arts and crafts, fitness classes, giveaways, and more.

The Open Streets program has led to the redesign city streets to create permanent, new pedestrian space. Since 2022, NYC DOT has pedestrianized more than one million square feet of space across the five boroughs - improving street safety and providing places for friends and neighbors to congregate and build community.

"The return of Trick-or-Streets to New York City this month is a sweet Halloween treat for children and families across Brooklyn," said Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso. "Whether you're out trick-or-treating or just want to enjoy the crisp fall weather, Trick-or-Streets will make this Halloween and Día De Los Muertos more fun and safer. Thank you to the NYC DOT for adding these pedestrian spaces across the city for the third year in a row."

"Halloween is supposed to be scary, but trick-or-treaters should not be scared by the possibility of being hurt in an accident while enjoying the holiday," said Queens Borough President Donovan Richards Jr. "That's why I'm thrilled that Trick-or-Streets will be back in Queens for the third straight year. I encourage all of our borough's families to visit a Trick-or-Streets location and have a fang-tastic time this Halloween."
