Kaptur Announces Federal Awards Boosting UToledo Cancer ResearchPress ReleaseHealth Care

Toledo, OH - Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur (OH-09) announced significant federal awards to the University of Toledo Health Science Campus, highlighting the university's pivotal role in advancing cancer research and improving public health outcomes. The awards from the National Institutes of Health (NIH), total over $680,000 and will support innovative studies that promise to enhance understanding and treatment of cancer and other health challenges.

The following awards have been granted:

  • Cancer Treatment Research ($524,419): Funding will support groundbreaking research aimed at advancing therapeutic options for cancer patients. This project underscores UToledo's commitment to tackling one of the most pressing health challenges of our time.
  • Biological Response to Environmental Health Hazards ($156,250): This award will enable researchers to explore the complex relationships between environmental factors and health outcomes, with potential implications for preventing cancer and other diseases.

The University of Toledo's efforts in these fields reflect its dedication not only to advancing high science but also to fostering collaboration across disciplines and addressing the unique needs of the northwest Ohio region. This funding come as part of broader federal efforts to support scientific research and bolster public health initiatives, and follow a $3.85 Million award from the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute announced in July 2024, and a $421,047 award from the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences announced in August 2024.
