Fine Arts Gallery features Pittsburgh-based artist

Waynesburg University's Fine Arts Gallery will show works by Pittsburgh-based artist Jane Ogren in a "Focus on Fiber" exhibition from Monday, Oct. 21, through Friday, Nov. 15.

An opening reception will be held on Monday, Oct. 21, from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. It is free and open to the public.

"Focus on Fiber" explores various techniques used in fiber art and incorporates mixed media.

Fiber art is the creation of works using a combination of material made of synthetic or natural materials. It includes techniques like knitting, hooking, felting, braiding or plaiting, quilting, tapestry, stitching, weaving, dyeing and more.

Ogren defined fiber art as a combination of fiber techniques and using fiber as a medium.

"It's a very broad category and can include any media that is considered fiber, but also any technique that is a fiber technique," Ogren said. "You could have a portrait done with silk fabric or a knitted piece made of glass; I think people need to come to the exhibition to see what I mean."

Her work has been shown locally, nationally and internationally. Currently, Ogren focuses on her fiber and mixed-media art and volunteers in the art community.

The Benedum Fine Arts Gallery is open Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
