Randy Willard, of Juneau, Sentenced to 7.5 Years for Sexual Abuse of a Minor and Distributing Indecent Materials to a Minor

(Juneau, AK) - On June 21, Juneau Superior Court Judge Amy Mead sentenced 39-year-old Randy Willard to 7.5 years of incarceration for the 2019 sexual abuse of a 14-year old family member in his home in November 2019. After the sexual abuse occurred, Willard sent the victim images and one video of him masturbating.

Willard denied the conduct, as well as the allegations that he sent other family members under the age of 18 inappropriate images. In February 2024, a Juneau jury convicted Willard of all counts: Sexual Abuse of a Minor in the Second Degree, Sexual Abuse of a Minor in the Third Degree and Distributing Indecent Materials to a Minor.

In sentencing Willard, Judge Mead found that while Willard has some prospects for rehabilitation, those prospects are guarded and that he still did not seem to recognize his role in committing these offenses against a child. Judge Mead also addressed the victim, telling her that she was impressed with her intelligence and bravery.

In addition to the 7.5 years to serve, Judge Mead suspended an additional 16.5 years of jail time. Willard will be on supervised probation for 10 years and will have to register as a sex offender for life.

Assistant Attorney General Rachel K. Gernat of the Office of Special Prosecutions prosecuted this case, with assistance from the Juneau District Attorney's Office. The Juneau Police Department investigated.
