Santa Rosa County Library System awarded $100,000 grant for digital literacy program

The Santa Rosa County Library System, with the help of the grants department, has been awarded a $100,000 grant to be used for a digital literacy program by the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity (DEO), Office of Broadband under the Digital Connectivity Program. The program will include the purchase of laptops for patron use and for a mobile computer lab.

The library will offer a training program for citizens to increase digital literacy by facilitating classes in basic and intermediate computer skills and workshops related to the use of personal smart devices such as tablets, laptops, and cell phones. Classes will include:

  • A.I. basics
  • Basic computer use: MS Office, Google Tools, working with apps, and others.
  • Basic internet use
  • Cybersecurity basics
  • Cybersecurity for senior citizens
  • Email and video conferencing basics
  • File management and back up basics
  • Get started with Telehealth
  • How to find a job using the internet
  • How to use an e-Reader and e-books
  • Internet safety for all ages
  • Mobile devices basics (Android and Apple)

The Digital Connectivity Program is an initiative that helps communities, residents, and service providers identify goals and projects for broadband expansion in last-mile areas, especially in rural Florida.The Broadband Opportunity Program ensures DEO's goal of expanding the availability, adoption and use of broadband internet to the unserved/underserved communities through state grant funding.
