In Georgia, FEMA disaster assistance is intended to meet the necessary expenses and serious needs not covered by insurance or other funds, related to Tropical Storm Debby, damage occurred Aug. 4 - 20, and/or Hurricane Helene only.
For FEMA to provide assistance, the President must declare an emergency or major disaster exists, and which specific counties are included. In Georgia, there are currently two open major disaster declarations: Tropical Storm Debby and Hurricane Helene.
Additional damage caused by recent flooding in southeast portions of the state arenot eligible for FEMA assistance. People with homeowners, renters or flood insurance should file a claim as soon as possible.
Homeowners and renters whose primary residence is located in one of 63 Georgia counties designated for FEMA's Individual Assistance and who had home or personal property damage related to Tropical Storm Debby and/or Hurricane Helene may be eligible for assistance to help pay for emergency needs, home repairs and to replace household items.
People whose primary residence is located in one of the following counties may apply for assistance: Appling, Atkinson, Bacon, Ben Hill, Berrien, Brantley, Brooks, Bryan, Bulloch, Burke, Butts, Camden, Candler, Charlton, Chatham, Clinch, Coffee, Colquitt, Columbia, Cook, Dodge, Echols, Effingham, Elbert, Emanuel, Evans, Fulton, Glascock, Glynn, Hancock, Irwin, Jeff Davis, Jefferson, Jenkins, Johnson, Lanier, Laurens, Liberty, Lincoln, Long, Lowndes, McDuffie, McIntosh, Montgomery, Newton, Pierce, Rabun, Richmond, Screven, Stephens, Taliaferro, Tattnall, Telfair, Thomas, Tift, Toombs, Treutlen, Ware, Warren, Washington, Wayne, Wheeler and Wilkes.
