Temporary Overnight Closures of San Pablo Avenue in Berkeley and Albany Through Late 2024

Published: Aug 14, 2024

BERKELEY / ALAMEDA COUNTY ― Caltrans has scheduled overnight work on driveways and sidewalks along San Pablo Avenue (State Route 13) starting Wednesday, August 14, 2024.

The work will start on San Pablo Avenue at Ashby and move in a northward direction. The active work area will be closed to pedestrian traffic.

The work will be performed from midnight to 8 a.m. each night. Work will begin in Berkeley and move northward toward Albany. Work is estimated to reach Albany in late 2024.

This operation is part of work on sidewalks and driveways along San Pablo Avenue (State Route 123) between Ashby Avenue in Berkeley and Brighton Avenue in Albany to comply with Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements.

Only those sidewalks and driveways not in compliance with the ADA will be affected.

All active work zones will be in one side of the roadway. The roadway is two lanes in each direction. The right-hand lane will be closed during the working hours. The left-hand lane will be open to accommodate traffic.

While work may occur at multiple locations, only one direction of travel at each location will be worked on at a time to better accommodate traffic.

The purpose of the new driveways and sidewalks is to make it easier for people with disabilities related to mobility to negotiate them.

Every effort will be made to keep noise and disruption to a minimum, but residents and businesses should expect some noise from construction. Parking will be restricted in the work areas, with signs in place to inform motorists of the restrictions.
