September is National Preparedness Month

August 26, 2024

Tornadoes, flooding, and snowstorms - Ohio is no stranger to severe weather. Aside from severe weather, we face risks associated with hazards like natural disasters, acts of terrorism, cyberattacks, chemical spills, and pandemics.

Disaster can strike at any time and any place. Being informed and prepared is one of the most important ways you can be safe when a disaster does happen. Make your goal to be secure and resilient.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Ready Campaign launched National Preparedness Month (NPM) in 2004. Its aim is to spread awareness on the importance of preparing for disaster. NPM emphasizes the value of preparedness and resilience by encouraging Americans to prepare for emergencies affecting their homes, businesses, schools, and communities.

National Preparedness Month gives everyone an opportunity to plan ahead and be ready when faced with an emergency.

Below are some things to consider for National Preparedness Month:

Ohio EMA posts preparedness and safety tips throughout the month of September to observe National Preparedness Month.
