Allegheny Alumna Selected for National 2024-2025 Aspiring Academics Program Through The American Association Of Colleges Of Pharmacy

Lauren Isaacs '22 never imagined pursuing pharmacy when she entered as a first-year at Allegheny College. Then, she was introduced to the field through an Introductory Chemistry course, and now she attends the Jefferson College of Pharmacy at Thomas Jefferson University.

"I will always be grateful to Allegheny for helping me get to where I am today, and I regularly embrace my Allegheny roots. Allegheny's commitment to distinctive major and minor combinations is what sets it apart from other colleges," says Isaacs, who majored in English and minored in chemistry. "The Allegheny motto of 'unusual combinations' is what helped me become a more versatile, well-rounded student."

She serves as the president of her pharmacy program's student body government and is a member of the:

  • American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy
  • Pennsylvania Society of Health-System Pharmacists
  • Rho Chi Pharmacy Honor Society
  • Student-Society for Health-System Pharmacists

Outside the classroom, Isaacs interns at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania's inpatient pharmacy department. Her internship focuses on sterile hazardous and sterile non-hazardous drug compounding spaces.

Isaacs' hard work has been recognized, as she was chosen from a nationwide selection to participate in the 2024-2025 Aspiring Academics Program through the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy, a leading academic organization in pharmacy.

She credits the Departments of English and Chemistry at Allegheny College with her academic development and continued support throughout her career.

"My background as an English major has helped me interpret notes within patient charts, provided me with the necessary written communication skills, increased my ability to extrapolate major details relating to each patient case, and enhanced my verbal communication with members of the healthcare team," says Isaacs.

She also says her time as a writing consultant and Senior Comprehensive Project prepared her for life after graduation.

"You truly never know what opportunities can arise from a little bit of curiosity. That class you signed up for to fulfill a distribution requirement may just be the class that changes your entire career trajectory. At Allegheny College, anything is possible."
