Sen. Fontana Announces $6.7 million for Safety Initiatives & Victim Services

Allegheny County - September 16, 2024 - Today, Senator Wayne Fontana announced $6,688,873 in funding for agencies and organizations that serve the people of the 42^nd District from the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency (PCCD). This funding provides critical funding for victim services, law enforcement, and other public safety initiatives.

"This is important investment into the safety and security of our neighborhoods," said. Sen. Fontana. "These grants will support law enforcement, protect crime victims, and help to lessen recidivism. I am always pleased to see Federal, state, county, and local non-profits working together to improve the lives of our community."

Awardees that serve the constituents of the 42^nd District include:

• Center for Victims - $1,318,088 in Federal Victims of Crime (VOCA) Funds
• Women's Center & Shelter of Greater Pittsburgh - $1,204,669 in Federal VOCA Funds
• Pittsburgh Action Against Rape - $1,033,593 in VOCA Funds for sexual assault and trafficked victims
• Allegheny Chief Executive Officer - $236,177 in State Act 80 Funds, $217,498 in Federal VOCA Funds, and $200,000 in Local Law Enforcement Support Grants
• Neighborhood Legal Services Association - $613,516 in VOCA Funds for Legal Aid for domestic violence survivors & crime victims
• Alle-Kiski Area Hope Center - $507,208 in Federal VOCA Funds
• Crisis Center North - $488,981 in Federal VOCA Funds for core and mobile counseling services
• Youth Enrichment Services - $250,000 in Federal Byrne Justice Grant Funds in reducing recidivism and evidencing prevention practices
• City of Pittsburgh - $200,000 in Local Law Enforcement Support Grants for NBRIS Compliance Software conversion
• Center of Life - $246,306 in Federal Byrne Justice Grant Funds for program support
• A Child's Place PA - $167,104 in VOCA Funds
• CASA of Allegheny County - $5,733 in VOCA Funds for Training of CASA Volunteers

This year Sen. Fontana has secured over $9.6 million in PCCD funding for local governments, schools, and nonprofits that serve the 42^nd District.

The PA Commission on Crime and Delinquency awarded $80 million this week to improve crime reporting, help law enforcement upgrade equipment, support victims of crime and victim service providers, and support county jail-based medication-assisted treatment for individuals with substance use disorder.
