In April 2024, Amazon launched a new monthly grocery delivery subscription benefit to Prime members and customers with a registered EBT (Electronic Benefit Transfer) card in over 3,500 cities and towns across the U.S.
At $9.99 per month for Prime members, this subscription-which pays for itself after just one delivery order per month-offers unlimited grocery delivery on orders over $35 across Amazon Fresh, Whole Foods Market, and a variety of local grocery and specialty retailers on Amazon.com, and even more convenient delivery and pickup options. At launch, customers with a registered EBT card with or without Prime Access could also experience the same grocery subscription benefits without a Prime membership at just $4.99 per month.
Since launch, we continue to see strong sign-ups for the grocery subscription and a positive customer response. Customers see immediate value in the subscription as it saves them money on grocery delivery fees and makes their grocery shopping experience more convenient. Building off this positive customer response, Amazon is offering Prime members an annual plan of $99.99 per year that provides even greater savings on grocery delivery. Prime members have the opportunity to get two months free if they sign up for the annual plan. This new annual plan allows Prime members to choose the grocery delivery subscription benefit that best fits their needs and budget. The monthly option offers Prime members flexibility and lower upfront costs, while the annual plan offers the best savings. Both options offer Prime members exceptional value on grocery delivery from Amazon, and even more convenient delivery and pickup options.
We have many different customers with many different needs, and we want to save all of them time and money so they can focus on what matters most. In line with this, Amazon is expanding affordable grocery delivery access to even more households by making our discounted monthly grocery delivery subscription of $4.99 available to all Prime Access members, regardless of their qualifying form of government assistance. This saves Prime Access customers $60 on a grocery delivery subscription compared to the monthly option for Prime members. What is Prime Access? Prime Accessis Prime's discounted membership program for qualifying government assistance recipients. Eligible customers in the U.S. who sign up for Prime Access get all the benefits of a regular Prime membership at 50% of the cost.
With the grocery delivery subscription, customers can shop national name brands and delicious organic and natural foods as often as they need, when they need it, and have items delivered to their door quickly. The subscription includes one-hour delivery windows at no extra cost where available, unlimited free 30-minute pickup on orders of any size, priority access to Recurring Reservationsfor a weekly grocery order, as well as unlimited delivery on $35+ orders from local grocery and specialty retailers like Cardenas Markets, Save Mart, Rite Aid, Pet Food Express, and Mission Wine & Spirits. A free 30-day trial is available to all customers so they can see how this grocery delivery subscription works for them.
