Guest Artist Music Recital at UW Nov. 14

University of Wyoming alumnus Daniel Shineberg, flute, and James Li, piano, are featured in "Homelands II," a UW Department of Music guest recital at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 14, in the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts recital hall. The performance is free and open to the public.

The program will feature "Homeland" by Alison Loggins Hull, with additional selections for flute and piano by Ian Clarke, Aaron Copland, Arthur Foote, Kazuo Fukushima, Astor Piazzolla and Leo Smit.

Shineberg also will give a convocation talk titled "Trauma Management: Authentic Self and Making Music" from 1:10-2 p.m. Nov. 14 in the performing arts recital hall.

Shineberg is an active freelance flutist, teacher and board-certified music therapist in Austin, Texas. He served eight seasons as principal flutist of the Heritage Philharmonic in Independence, Mo., and has appeared with the Colorado Mahler Festival Orchestra, Kansas City Symphony and Topeka Symphony.

He is a passionate promoter of new music and has commissioned and given premieres of works by Christopher Caliendo, Aaryn Ricucci-Hill, Hanki Kim and Daniel Morel. Shineberg is a dedicated educator noted for his insightful and humanistic approach to teaching.

Li, an award-winning pianist, is an adjunct faculty member in collaborative piano in the vocal area at the University of Missouri-Kansas City and previously served as a pianist at the Lyric Opera of Kansas City.

Originally from Hong Kong, Li has performed internationally as a soloist and chamber musician, collaborating with prominent musicians and conductors. He has worked with renowned conductors Gerard Schwarz and Andy Einhorn, and has collaborated with distinguished musicians, such as Jonathan Cohen, Sangyoon Kim and Michael Schults.
