Press Release

On August 3, 2024, State Police of Saratoga arrested Matthew Sanchez, 28, of Hampton, VA, for:

  • Sixteen counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the third degree, a class "D" felony
  • Two counts of Criminal Possession of a Firearm, a class "E" felony
  • Two counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the seventh degree, a class "A" misdemeanor
  • Unlawful Purchase of Body Armor, a class "A" misdemeanor
  • Criminal Possession of a Rapid-Fire Modification Device, a class "A" misdemeanor

On August 3, 2024, Troopers responded to the Naval Nuclear Laboratory at the Kenneth A. Kesselring Site in West Milton, NY, for the reports of weapons found in an individual's vehicle. The investigation determined Sanchez allegedly illegally possessed a handgun, multiple illegal high-capacity magazines, a ballistic vest, and controlled substances in his vehicle while on the property. Sanchez was working at the facility as a contractor. He was permitted to be there and did not threaten or display any weapon. The weapons were discovered during a routine security inspection, as weapons are not allowed in the secured facility.

Sanchez was arrested at the scene and transported to SP Saratoga for processing.

The continued investigation led to the execution of a search warrant at a hotel room rented by Sanchez in Saratoga Springs, NY, where multiple additional illegal firearms, high-capacity magazines, and controlled substances were seized.

Sanchez was processed at SP Saratoga for additional charges, arraigned before the Saratoga Springs Court, and remanded to the Saratoga County Correctional Facility in lieu of $40,000 cash, $80,000 bond, and a $400,000 partially secured bond.
