RCMP Major Crime Services and Manitoba First Nations Police Service investigate homicide

On July 26, 2024 at approximately 9:10 am, Manitoba First Nations Police Service (MFNPS) responded to a report of a sudden death at a residence on Canupawakpa Dakota Nation. Officers along with Emergency Medical Services attended and located a 42-year-old male from the community, deceased with obvious injuries.

RCMP Major Crime Services took carriage of the investigation with assistance from MFNPS Criminal Investigations Unit and the RCMP Forensic Identification Section.

On July 29, 2024, Marissa Jean Benn, 36, of Canupawakpa Dakota Nation, was charged with Manslaughter. She has been remanded into custody.
