Vintage Skate Style: Vans Hylane

Inspired by the Upland from the late '90s, the new Vans Hylane was born out of a love for all things skating in the Y2K era.

Skating was at an all-time popularity high in the late nineties and early noughties, quickly forming its own fashion identity.

Oversized tees, baggy jeans and chunky trainers was the go-to look. Heavily influenced by the rise of hip-hop and the likes of Eminem and Jay-Z, as well as rock bands such as blink-182 and Sum 41, it was an image that defined a generation.

Born Out Of The '90s

In 1999, Vans dropped the Upland that channelled that era-defining aesthetic. Chunky and supportive with oversized laces and bold branding, they were a big hit!

Now, the brand is looking to bring back that signature look with their latest release, the Hylane. A modern take on the OG Upland, the Hylane evokes everything you loved about Y2K skate fashion, but with a fresh update for the modern day.

Like the Upland, it's bold and chunky, with beefy sidewalls, a puffy tongue, padded ankle collar and 3D glossed Sidestripe.

A cold cement cupsole moulds to the shape of your foot, working with a compression channel for a snug, supported fit at all times.

Cut from smooth, durable suede with synthetic elements, they're built to withstand every scuff and scrape, from the streets to the skatepark. Hard-wearing and long-lasting like skate shoes should be, the Vans Hylane is a must-cop.

Throw it back to that iconic Y2K era and bag some skate-inspired style with the Vans Hylane at JD!
