The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT), the Highway Safety Network, and State Farm Insurance have scheduled a free children's bicycle rodeo in Crawford County in connection with Cochranton Borough Park Fest.

The event will take place Saturday, September 21, 2024, at Lions Park from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM.

The goal of the children's bike rodeo is to interest kids in bicycling, educate them on safety requirements, and instill in them safe biking habits.

"Regardless of age, everyone who rides a bicycle needs to have an understanding of how to keep themselves and others safe on the road," said Austin Soboleski, a Community Traffic Safety Project Coordinator with the Highway Safety Network. "I encourage families to participate in the bike rodeo to have fun and help their children learn important safety tips they can carry with them long into their adult life."

All participants will take part in a number of activities that focus on a specific bike safety skill such as using proper hand signals and maintaining balance.

Each attendee should bring a bicycle and helmet and be accompanied by a parent or guardian who can sign a permission slip for participation.

The event is open to all children ages 5 to 12.

Helmet and bicycle inspections will be done for all riders prior to participation.

At the conclusion of the rodeo, a random drawing will be held to give away two free bicycles donated by Biggs. A limited number of free helmets will also be provided to those who do not own one or have a damaged helmet.

"My office has been a part of the Cochranton community for more than 30 years and the bike rodeo is a perfect way for us to give back and promote bicycling to the next generation," said State Farm Agent Jennifer Biggs.
