NOPD Arrests Suspect in Homicide Investigation

The NOPD today (August 13, 2024) announces the arrest of Jakoz King (black male, DOB; 12-11-2006) of Reserve, La., in its investigation of a homicide that occurred on August 10, 2024, at the intersection of Bourbon and Saint Louis streets.

At about 3:55 a.m. on August 10, NOPD Eighth District officers were flagged down for a call of a shot person at the location. Officers located a male gunshot wound victim lying near the intersection. EMS arrived on scene and transported the victim to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.

Earlier today (August 13), the Orleans Parish Coroner's Office identified the victim as 26-year-old Andre K. Preston and determined cause of death to be from gunshot-related injuries.

Through investigation, NOPD Homicide Section detectives developed and positively identified King as the perpetrator in this incident. On August 12, detectives obtained an arrest warrant for King on one count of second-degree murder.

NOPD Homicide Section detectives collaborated with St. John the Baptist Parish Sherrif's Office to locate King, who was taken into custody on August 12 in St. John the Baptist Parish. King is currently being held there as a fugitive.

All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
