ECU undergrads build career confidence through the SECU Public Fellows Internship program

Over the summer, 20 East Carolina University undergraduates took part in the rewarding and impactful SECU Public Fellows Internship (PFI) program.
The internship program places in-state undergraduate students with government and nonprofit organizations across eastern North Carolina for a transformative learning and mutually beneficial experience. The program allows ECU students to use their knowledge and expertise to help organizations achieve community-identified priorities. Interns receive real-world experience while developing leadership, analytical, communication and project management skills.
Over the past 10 years at ECU, the PFI program has provided more than 176 internships to 75 eastern North Carolina organizations. This year, students selected to the program partnered with government and nonprofit organizations across 12 counties in the region. Students completed 330 internship and professional development hours and received a $4,645 stipend.
This year's internship locations included the Murfreesboro Chamber of Commerce, Beaufort County Arts Council and Building Hope Community Life Center. Read about some of the internship experiences where Pirates supported regional organizations.
Interested in participating as a regional site or intern? The application period for interested sites opens in late October, and the application period for summer 2025 internships opens the first week of March.
