Revolutionizing campus navigation: UNM launches interactive campus map

Navigating The University of New Mexico's (UNM) vibrant campus just got easier with the launch of an online, interactive campus map. Designed to modernize and streamline campus experiences for students, staff, faculty and visitors alike, this innovative tool revolutionizes how we find our destinations at UNM. This map is your new go-to resource for exploring and navigating the campus effortlessly.

Currently, the map covers UNM's Albuquerque Campuses and is accessible online through mobile and desktop computers. Users can easily find buildings, amenities, and points of interest through the search bar or by navigating through categories. Whether you're a freshman trying to find your way to your first class, a faculty member seeking a specific building for a meeting, or a visitor exploring the campus for the first time, this map is your ultimate guide.

Real-time Updates for Current & Easy Wayfinding
Static paper maps that lack real-time updates are a thing of the past. The new Interactive Campus Map offers a dynamic and user-friendly interface that provides comprehensive information at the touch of a button. The map isn't just a directory of buildings, but a useful information hub for all aspects of campus life with live weblinks for more information. For events like move-in day, commencement, and other occasions, the map will help streamline information and traveling instructions - whether on foot, bike, or car.

The new interactive campus map offers a robust set of features, including but not limited to:

  • Wayfinding with turn-by-turn directions to anywhere on campus
  • Easy to find parking zones and shuttle routes
  • Visibility of road closures and construction areas
  • Looking for food? Use the map to find locations near you.
  • Custom print maps are available through the platform for a variety of needs, like events on campus or class schedules
  • For Staff & Faculty, QR Code generation is available to open at specific locations, like The Welcome Center or Popejoy Hall. Click 'Feedback' on the map to request yours!

Institution-wide Support Encourages Collaboration Across UNM
The Interactive Campus Map is a collaborative effort supported by a diverse team from across UNM. With over 25 dedicated members from various areas such as Institutional Support Services, Environmental Health & Safety, Athletics, Health Sciences, and more, this resource is continuously improved and updated. The working group meets bi-annually to address institutional needs, while each member independently manages and updates their specific content areas. If a UNM department is interested in contributing to this dynamic project, you are warmly invited to join the working group. This initiative proudly embodies the fifth 2040 UNM strategic goal, One University, by enhancing our administrative functions to strengthen The University and its positive impact on our community.

"We're thrilled to introduce this innovative tool to our UNM campus community," said Shawna Wolfe, vice president for Institutional Support Services (ISS). "The Interactive Campus Map represents our commitment to enhancing the overall experience of everyone who steps foot on our campuses. Whether you're a student trying to find your next class or a visitor exploring our campus, this map is your passport to unlocking all that our campus grounds have to offer. With just a tap, dive into a seamless journey of discovery and connection right at your fingertips."

Facilities Management Representative Maya Williams shared her excitement for the map's launch. "The interactive map is an incredible resource for navigating campus and sharing information," she said. "It significantly streamlines the process of sharing project and construction details. I also don't have the best sense of direction, so the mobile version's directions feature makes it much easier to navigate campus whether I'm walking or driving."

"The new interactive map will be a tremendous tool for our students, visitors and community. These new wayfinding tools make the University more accessible for everyone," said Health Sciences Marketing & Communications Representative Byron Hughey-Geer. "It's been a pleasure to work with many departments across The University within the working group on this fantastic new tool. I'm looking forward to the launch of the map!"

"I am very excited about the launch of the interactive campus map," said Anne Jakle, director of the Office of Sustainability. "Not only will the new map be a game-changer for navigation around our campus, it also will showcase sustainable features at UNM-like green buildings and solar energy projects-to the campus community and beyond."

The map is available now and can be accessed on any smartphone or computer. We encourage all students and staff to explore the map and take advantage of its many features.
