At the Kansas Health Institute, we're embracing the opportunity to embed equity in research. We're announcing the development of a set of practical guides, created with stakeholder feedback, to integrate equity considerations at every stage of the process. Explore the draft guides below.

These guides are for public comment only. To save time as you review the guides, keep in mind that the following sections are identical on all six guides: Development of the Guides (page 1) and General Principles (pages 3 and 4).

We Value Your Feedback!

To ensure we hear from as many voices as possible, we are launching an open comment period from July 1-Dec. 31, 2024. This comment period provides an opportunity for you to share your thoughts and help us refine these resources further. Together, we can make meaningful progress toward equity in our work. Purpose of the Guides

Many organizations may encounter challenges in embedding equity in their research, literature review, technical assistance, facilitation and policy analysis due to uncertainty about effective approaches and strategies. Although numerous valuable resources exist to guide these efforts, they are not necessarily structured by topic, phase of the project or as checklists.

To address this, the Kansas Health Institute (KHI) has developed a set of practical guides to integrate equity considerations at every stage of these processes. Development of the guides was informed by current literature, KHI's experiences and stakeholder feedback gathered at a convening held on May 14, 2024.

The guides are intended for a wide range of audiences, including those engaging in research activities and members of the community who are engaged in or affected by research.

Acknowledgements

We extend our sincere appreciation to all KHI staff and the diverse group of stakeholders who provided invaluable feedback on the equity guides. Your thoughtful insights and suggestions have greatly enriched the quality and relevance of this work. Although we are unable to list each of you by name, your contributions are deeply valued and have been instrumental in shaping these guides. Thank you for your commitment to advancing equity and for your continued support.

About this Series

The series of guides that include strategies for embedding equity in research was developed by the Kansas Health Institute. This work is supported by the Equity, Inclusion, and Anti-Racism Capacity Building Grant funded by the Health Forward Foundation (HFF). The guides should not be construed as the official position or policy, nor should any endorsement be inferred by HFF.

Use of Artificial Intelligence

Initial stakeholder feedback requested guidance on using Artificial Intelligence in these efforts. At this time, using AI has not been addressed in the guides. If you decide to use AI, we encourage you to consult available research before moving forward to maximize potential benefits and mitigate potential risks. If you have any lessons learned from incorporating AI, we would appreciate hearing this feedback during the open comment period.
