Rep. Grijalva Announces $11.3 Million in Federal Funding for City of Tucson to Update Transit Infrastructure

WASHINGTON - Today, Representative Raúl M. Grijalva (AZ-07) announced the City of Tucson and Sun Tran will receive $11,385,600 in federal funding from the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) to replace aging equipment at its Northwest Bus Maintenance Facility and upgrade multiple bus stops. By installing dozens of shelters, adding trees for shade and improving signage through Braille, large print, wayfinding and audible information, the federal funding will make their system more accessible and equitable.

"Thanks to the Biden-Harris administration and Congressional Democrats' leadership on the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, the City of Tucson will update bus and transportation infrastructure for greater sustainability, accessibility, and safety from the dangerous Arizona heat," said Rep. Grijalva. "As we face increasingly frequent and severe weather events as a result of climate change, accessible and resilient transit options are a necessity. I will continue to fight and support federal funding for our communities to build an adaptable and equitable transit system that improves Southern Arizona's community sustainability, well-being, and health."
