What is the TEW and what does it do?

  • The TEW is composed of members with personal or professional affiliations to community organizations, non-profits, coalitions, and/or networks serving Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC) communities and other communities underinvested by the government in Seattle and King County.
  • A few years ago, SDOT staff and the TEW partnered to create the Transportation Equity Framework. The framework is a roadmap for decision makers, employees, and the greater community to create a more equitable transportation system collaboratively.
  • Members of the TEW serve as community stewards of the Transportation Equity Framework to advance transportation equity in Seattle.
  • Members advise SDOT on policies and strategies, address transportation inequities in Seattle's transportation system (a system that includes streets, bicycle facilities, buses, sidewalks, crosswalks, bridges, trucks, and much more).

One of SDOT's key goals is to collaborate with community and implement restorative practices to address transportation-related inequities. Partnering with the TEW is one important way that we do that. We thank you for helping us create an equitable, vibrant, and diverse city where moving around is safe, fair, and sustainable, and where all people and businesses can access their daily needs and feel connected to their community. We appreciate your time and interest.
