During the ceremony, Ambassador Plinkert stressed the importance of the European Union's relationship with Nauru.

'' The European Union's relations with Nauru are centred on our common values and interests, such as global security, in particular maritime and climate security, democracy, and our common interest to uphold multilateralism and the rules-based global order. I am honoured to have been accredited as Ambassador of the European Union to Nauru and look forward to strengthening relations with Nauru in the context of the Samoa Agreement" said Ambassador Plinkert.

''The European Union and Nauru share a long-standing tradition of co-operation and partnership. During my tenure, I look forward to work together in confronting the challenges facing us as a global humanity now and into the future", added Plinkert.

Ambassador Plinkert said the recently signed Samoa Agreementbetween the European Union and the OACPS(l (Organisation of African Caribbean and Pacific Countries) contains a specific Protocol for comprehensive Pacific-EU relations defining priority areas of the European Union's cooperation, aligned with the 2050 Strategy for the Blue Pacific Continent. This will ensure that the European Union responds better to the needs of Nauru and the Pacific partners and develop a common agenda based on shared priorities.
