TACOMA, Wash. - Sandesh Sadalge has officially sworn in to the Tacoma City Council District 4 position, for a term to expire December 31, 2025. Council Member Sadalge is the first person of South Asian descent to serve on the City Council.

"I am humbled and honored to be selected for appointment to the District 4 Council position," said Council Member Sadalge. "I was recruited to public service in Tacoma by former Council Member Catherine Ushka, and I want to honor her legacy, continue to champion her priorities and be a strong advocate for District 4."

"With the appointment of Sandesh Sadalge to the District 4 Position, we honor the legacy of our late Council Member Catherine Ushka by appointing a leader to continue her fierce advocacy for East Tacoma," said Mayor Victoria Woodards. "We are excited to welcome Council Member Sadalge to the Council, and are confident that his authenticity, passion and commitment will be an asset to the Council for the remainder of his term. Together, we will build upon the foundation that has been laid and continue to provide great leadership for District 4."

Council Member Sadalge dedicated himself to his community as a steering committee member on the award-winning McKinley Hill Neighborhood Plan and served on Tacoma's Planning Commission as the District 4 representative. He also brings over 20 years of experience in the private sector, primarily in data analytics, and has helped relaunch and operate a small business in Tacoma that employed up to 30 individuals. He and his wife are members of the Tacoma-Pierce County Chamber of Commerce, and his wife owns and operates a home-based craft business in Tacoma.

The City Council is responsible for enacting all legislation, developing policies, and making general decisions for governing the City organization.
