WISE Women of Blair County and the Donna D. Gority scholarship Seeking Applications

WISE Women of Blair County and the Donna D. Gority scholarship are pleased to announce that they are seeking applications for scholarship assistance. One or more scholarships will be awarded up to a total of $10,000. Deadline for applications is no later than 4 pm on Friday, September 27, 2024. These completed applications must be received by email or US Postal mail to WISE Women at our address of P. O. Box 134, Hollidaysburg, PA 16648 or you may submit your application to our email address of [email protected].

Scholarships will be available to Blair County resident females 21 years of age or older who have overcome adversity or discrimination in their lives and who are pursuing post-secondary education. The scholarship is not available for a Masters, Doctorate or a second Bachelor's degree. We award these scholarships through the Central Pennsylvania Community Foundation (CPCF).

The Gority scholarship would go to a woman whose adversity and/or whose education/career aspirations are in an area that Donna Gority has been involved with in the community: domestic abuse, sexual assault, substance use disorder, mental illness/suicide, child abuse, HIV/AIDS, juvenile/criminal justice, teen pregnancy, physical or intellectual disabilities, and racial or LGBTQIA+ discrimination.

Every application will be considered for both the WISE Women and Gority scholarships. Applications for scholarships include two essay questions. The first requires the applicant to describe her career goals as well as her plans for reaching these goals. The second requires her to describe the adversity in her life and its impact. Details about the applicant's educational background and any additional information she would like to provide for the committee must be attached to the application and received by the stated deadline.

WISE Women of Blair County (WISE stands for Women Involved in Scholarship and Empowerment) has granted $20,000 in scholarships each year for women to continue their education. The mission of the organization is empowering women and encourage acceptance and inclusion through collaboration, service, and education. The mission is fulfilled by providing scholarships, awarding grants, and recognizing outstanding women in our community through the annual Tribute dinner.
