Samsara’s Latest Safety Innovations: AI-Driven Detections, Training from Anywhere, and More

Safety is a perennial concern for fleets, and with good reason. While accidents have begun to trend down, commercial drivers are noticing an uptick in unsafe behaviors on the road. In fact, according to a recent surveyof professional drivers, 82% feel that other drivers are more distracted, 76% believe they are more reckless, and 76% think they do not drive safely around commercial vehicles.

At Samsara, increasing the safety of the operations that power our world is a core part of our company mission. That's why we're continuously innovating new safety tools and features to help keep fleets-and the communities they serve-safer. In June, we announcedseveral exciting new products that organizations can use to provide a complete 360-degree safety experience for drivers, including improved training, AI-driven alerts, and additional safety features for trailers. Read on for a recap of Samara's new safety offerings.

Before drivers get on the road: Improved training and Connected Workflows.

In physical operations, safety leaders understand that training is one of the most important tools they have for keeping workers safe. In fact, 40% of safety managerscite it as a top-five solution for addressing industry safety problems.

Samsara's new Connected Training solution enables organizations to use integrated, data-driven learning to train and upskill workers anytime, anywhere, through the Samsara Driver App. Integrated with the Samsara platform, managers can assign courses based on behavior data and track completion. Moreover, training can be customized with course creation, imports, or SambaSafetyexpert videos, helping to streamline training requirements.

Customers using Connected Training are already reporting significant benefits. Medico, a healthcare linen services provider, reduced administrative work time by 80% and driver training time by 67%, while Emery Sapp & Sons, a construction contractor, lowered safety events per 1,000 miles by 40%. Connected Training will be available to purchase in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico later this summer. Click hereto learn more.

In addition to better, more streamlined training, Samsara can now digitize forms and other paperwork to help automate job-related safety tasks and record keeping, like job safety analyses, incident reports, safety meeting documentation, and more. Samsara's new Connected Workflows enables organizations to create multi-step workflows using data from the Samsara platform, eliminating busy work for field workers and freeing up admin time to address new business challenges. For instance, if a Samsara Vehicle Gateway detects a crash, Connected Workflows can automatically assign an incident report to the vehicle's driver. After the report is submitted and approved, a root cause analysis form can then be assigned to a supervisor.

Connected Workflows is available to Samsara customers worldwide. Click herefor more information.

In the driver's seat: AI detections help reduce on-the-road risk and tailor coaching.

Faced with rising costs and high-risk environments, organizations are turning to AI technology and safety data to reduce risk. Samsara is meeting this need with AI detections that help drivers improve safety in real-time. They include:

  • Forward Collision Warning to help prevent rear-end collisions. One Samsara customer, A-One Chipseal, an asphalt maintenance company in Denver, is already using this AI detection to see results, reducing their forward collisions from 50% of all accidents to 0%.

  • Drowsiness Detection to alert drivers and managers to signs of fatigue. Another Samsara customer, Sentinel Transportation-a provider of transportation services for crude oil and fuel-uses this detection to notify drivers of drowsiness, preventing potential collisions. According to their team, "Getting a proactive alert that a driver is fatigued or yawning allows us to contact them to avoid a potential collision." This alert is now in open beta. Contact your Samsara account team to be considered for participation in the beta program.

  • Lane Departure Warning to prevent unsafe lane departures and reduce side-swiping risks. Samsara customer Certarus, a North American leader in low carbon energy solutions, uses this detection to enhance driver coaching. As the Certarus team explains, "Now we have the full story so managers can coach drivers and understand why they're going over the line in the first place."

These AI-driven detections integrate with Samsara's coaching workflows and reporting. This helps managers identify repeat behaviors and provide targeted video-based coaching. Our new AI-based detections are rolling out globally over the next few months. Click hereto learn more.

Around the vehicle: Improved trailer maintenance and tire monitoring.

Today's fleets face increasing demands, including enhancing safety, ensuring compliance, reducing fuel waste, and preventing cargo theft, challenges that have driven the cost of operating a truck to an all-time high of $2.25 per mile. Managers need comprehensive solutions to lower costs, boost efficiency, and improve safety performance across their fleets.

Samsara's latest Next-Generation Smart Trailer features can help achieve these goals. In addition to frontline efficiency tools, Samsara has introduced new trailer telematics features and formed new partnerships to enhance trailer operations and safety. These new offerings allow organizations to:

  • Optimize trailer maintenance: Advanced trailer telematics provide both real-time and historical visibility into electrical power and Anti-Lock Braking Systems (ABS), accelerating troubleshooting for critical safety and compliance issues, as well as giving organizations the ability to identify health trends.

  • Improve visibility into tire conditions: Samsara is collaborating with Continental Tire and Hendrickson to offer remote visibility into tire conditions. With insights from Continental's Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) and Hendrickson's Automatic Tire Inflation System (ATIS), fleets can address critical tire issues, reducing safety incidents and costs.

  • Ensure safety and compliance: Advanced features-such as remote access to ABS Lamp Status and ABS Fault Codes, ABS Power Monitoring, and Tire Health-provide data to help drive safety initiatives and proactively increase compliance across fleets.

Trailer Telematics is in Early Release for customers in North America. Click herefor more information.
