1. Philippines

The country's seasonally adjusted Consumer Price Index (CPI) for all items posted a zero percent monthly rate in June 2024 from a 0.3 percent month-on-month uptick in May 2024.

Mixed movements were observed in the monthly seasonally adjusted CPI at the commodity group level. The food and non-alcoholic beverages index went up at faster pace of 0.7 percent month-on-month in June 2024 from a 0.4 percent monthly increase in May 2024.

Meanwhile, a slower monthly increment of 0.1 percent was observed in the indices of clothing and footwear, and furnishings, household equipment and routine household maintenance in June 2024 from their corresponding monthly increments of 0.2 percent and 0.4 percent in May 2024.

The monthly increments in the deseasonalized CPI of health and personal care, and miscellaneous goods and services both remained at 0.2 percent during the month.

On the other hand, the seasonally adjusted CPI of housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels registered a month-on-month decrease of 0.9 percent in June 2024 from a 0.7 percent increment in May 2024.

Moreover, faster month-on-month decrease was registered in the transport index at 0.6 percent during the month from a 0.3 percent decrement recorded in May 2024.

The seasonal factors, such as the degree of demand for selected goods and services during the season, pulled down the indices of the following commodity groups:

a. All items;
b. Food and non-alcoholic beverages;
c. Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels; and
d. Health.

The seasonal factors, however, pushed up the index of furnishings, household equipment and routine household maintenance.

Meanwhile, the indices of clothing and footwear, transport, and personal care, and miscellaneous goods and services were not affected by the seasonal factors. (Table 1)

2. National Capital Region (NCR)

In NCR, the deseasonalized CPI for all items dropped by 0.7 percent month-on-month in June 2024 from a 0.6 percent monthly increment in May 2024.

Likewise, the seasonally adjusted CPI of housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels, and furnishings, household equipment and routine household maintenance dropped by 2.9 percent and 0.1 percent, respectively, from their corresponding previous month's increases of 0.9 percent and 0.2 percent.

On the other hand, the index of food and non-alcoholic beverages had a slower monthly increase of 0.5 percent in June 2024 from 0.9 percent recorded in May 2024.

Meanwhile, monthly increments in the indices of health and personal care, and miscellaneous goods and services remained at 0.1 percent and 0.3 percent, respectively.

The seasonal factors, such as the degree of demand for selected goods and services during the season, pulled down the indices of the following commodity groups:

a. All items;
b. Food and non-alcoholic beverages; and
c. Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels.

The seasonal factors, however, pushed up the indices of furnishings, household equipment and routine household maintenance, and personal care, and miscellaneous goods and services.

Meanwhile, the health index was not affected by the seasonal factors. (Table 2)

The index of furnishings, household equipment and routine household maintenance recorded a slower month-on-month increase of 0.1 percent from 0.4 percent increase in May 2024.

On the other hand, the housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels index dropped by 0.2 percent month-on-month in June 2024 from 0.6 percent monthly increment recorded in May 2024. The transport index decreased further by 0.7 percent during the month from 0.2 percent month-on-month decrement in the previous month.
